Luke was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukaemia (ALL) in October 2018, the day before his 18th birthday. Following six months of intensive treatment Luke entered a nine-month period of remission.
In February 2020, Luke relapsed with optical neuropathy, culminating in the loss of sight in his right eye. It was decided that Luke was in need of a bone marrow transplant, and unfortunately his sibling wasn’t a match leaving the family looking to the stem cell register for a stem cell donor.
Luke is mad about cars, particularly driving his own, a hobby he is really keen to get back to. He has a great circle of friends from school and college but, like most of us, now is enjoying their company online.
The Hopes would like to see more people register as potential stem cell donors. They understand the impact a match can make for families like theirs.
If you are unable to register as a potential donor, we would be very grateful if you could consider making a contribution towards the cost of registration.
