“As a mum and dad, we are programmed to fix things for our children but this isn’t something we can do this time - my heart breaks a little more each day,” shares Eddie’s mum, Melissa, who is urging more people to join the stem cell register to help save her son.
10-year-old Eddie has tragically been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia and critically needs to find a stem cell match. Currently, there is no perfect match for him on the register.
His mum, Melissa, explains: “After what seemed like the worst time of our lives in March/ April of this year, our then 9-year-old son, Eddie, developed acute hepatitis of unknown origin, followed by acute liver failure. He spent a month in the hospital and was transferred to Kings College London for more specialist care.
“Just when we thought our lives were on the road to some normality, our lives came crashing down once again with a diagnosis of aplastic anaemia in May of this year. Our life as we knew it ended that day! Uncertainty for tomorrow, next week and the months ahead.
“Eddie’s life has been turned upside down and he is missing school, football and theme parks to name a few…
“The only potential cure is a stem cell transplant but there is no perfect match on the register in the UK or worldwide, currently. We need the generosity and selfless act of a stranger to sign up to become a stem cell donor in the hope of finding that perfect match for our son.”
Help us find Eddie’s hero!
If you’re aged between 17 and 55, register as a stem cell donor to help give Eddie, and patients like him, hope.
