Stem cell donation

A guide to G-CSF self-administration

Learn how to administer G-CSF injections to increase stem cell production for a successful PBSC donation

Thank you for being a lifesaver. By donating your stem cells you are giving someone with blood cancer or a blood disorder a second chance at life.

As you prepare for your stem cell donation via Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Collection (PBSC), you'll receive a drug containing the growth factor G-CSF for four days. Additional injection(s) may be required on the day of the donation, if a second day of donation is required.

G-CSF is a type of growth stimulating factor or protein that naturally occurs in your body. An extra boost of G-CSF helps to increase the number of stem cells produced and released into your bloodstream. This process is crucial because it helps to ensure the number of cells collected from your blood is high enough to effectively treat a patient with blood cancer.

In this video, we will guide you on how to successfully administer your G-CSF injections in preparation for your stem cell donation.
